Day 50
Yay, Day 50! Well after yesterday’s killer workout from Jari Love I just felt like doing nothing all day. But then I remembered how beneficial it is to stretch and move about the days just after a strenuous workout – it all helps get over delayed onset muscle soreness [DOMS] a lot faster. And this morning I awoke feeling highly aware of all the muscles God gave me. Man, although nothing was agonizing I could feel every muscle. Wow.
So, it was good that I had a new workout to do as I was pretty de-motivated. I had done Kimberly Spreen’s Star Trainer workout, but this time I used Kendell Hogan’s. It was 30 minutes of cardio that built up nicely over time. At the beginning my heart rate was in the bottom range of my Target Heart Rate zone. But gradually with all the add-ons, my heart rate went up and up. By the end it was at 93%, ever so briefly.
I enjoyed the delivery of the workout. The steps were easy to follow thanks to great cueing and everyone on the DVD just looked like they were having a lot of fun – no phoney smiles [maybe they are just real good actors!] I don’t think I would have enjoyed doing a second cardio workout as my body was pretty tired so it was a good thing that I calmed everything down with a nice dose of stretching.
Stretching is so important and I know that I haven’t been doing enough of it. My hamstrings have been pretty tight each morning. I am a slacker in the flexibility workout department, for sure. I really wanted to do some stretches, but not get into any tough yoga positions that would jack up my heart rate. That left me to choose from Karen Voight’s Pure and Simple Stretch or Yoga Stretch, from her Yoga Power and Slim Physique DVDs. I chose the latter because I love the trance music throughout – I need to find that CD.
After the cardio section, which burned 234 cals, I hardly burned much more. Here are the stats to prove it:
3/27/08
58:36 [workout time]
19:03 [in aerobic zone 60% -80% Target Heart Rate]
119 bpm [average heart rate]
167 bpm [highest heart rate]
309 [calls burned]
