Well I can honestly say that Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred workout is an awesome butt kicker that builds muscular and cardiovascular stamina in a very short amount of time. I love it – a true sweatfest each and every time.
Level 3 was not as hard as I thought it would be – you have plenty of time to build up your stamina before reaching it. I know that if I had just done level 3 as my first workout from this DVD I would have died! It is a real killer. Especially for the upper body – most of the workout it done in a plank position. My shoulders got so much stronger from doing 10 days of level 3 – I am impressed.
And here is the video of Level 3 so you can understand its killer side!
The only thing that didn’t impress me was not losing a pound. I am trying not to dwell on not losing any weight because I believe in the Law of Attraction – if I think I can’t lose weight, I won’t. But, having done 3 months of workouts at home and then 30 days [not in a row!] with Jillian and sweating like a manic pig AND seeing no weight loss I have decided that I just need to work out more – as in more cardio. I can’t do that at home any longer, for 2 reasons: my air conditioning just doesn’t seem to keep my house ice cold now that it is hotter than heck in my part of the world – I almost wanted to barf while exercising the other day even though I had 3 fans pointing at me! And because my carpet is just adding too much friction and I am starting to get knee aches.
Jillian promotes her healthy eating plan on her web site and shred DVD as part of losing weight on the shred. As we all know from The Biggest Loser, diet is a key component in a weight loss program. I think much of my problem is that I can’t seem to shift weight unless I do very high intensity exercise – like lots of kickboxing. Why this is I do not know. I have noticed just very small changes in weight when doing medium intensity workouts coupled with monitored eating and calorie shifting – like just a few pounds over a couple of months! Totally discouraging.
So today I am going to go over to Gold’s Gym and use a 7 day pass to check them out. If I like them I will join. The local Golds is really decked out well and is only 10 minutes from my house so it seems like a good proposition to me. We’ll just see if they try and gouge me on price!
I will continue to work out at home, but not as my sole way of getting in a daily workout. Anyway I love to do workout DVDs so I will not stop – I will keep writing on this blog when Netflix sends me a new workout.

Jillian Michaels teams with Network for a Healthy California to fight childhood obesity. Jillian Michaels, star of NBC’s reality show The Biggest Loser and host of her own radio show on KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles, has joined with L.A. County public health advocates in the fight against childhood obesity. The radio promotion, which runs through September, consists of radio ads, a website and an on-air contest.
The radio ads feature Jillian along with a number of “Champion Moms,” who are actual local moms that serve as advocates for a statewide “Champions for Change” campaign (http://championsforchange.lacounty.gov/). The Champions for Change are committed to helping their families eat more fruits and vegetables and be more physically active. They also help make healthy changes in their neighborhoods, like encouraging local stores to stock more fresh fruits and vegetables. Their goal is to help prevent serious health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and certain types of cancer. The ads are sponsored by the Los Angeles Collaborative for Healthy Active Children and the Network for a Healthy California–Los Angeles Region and funded by USDA’s Food Stamp Program, an equal opportunity provider and employer. For information about food stamps, call 1-888-328-3483.
KFI’s promotion website features a contest where listeners can submit their own champion for change ideas for a chance to win a mini vacation to a Palm Springs Luxury Hotel and an opportunity to meet Jillian at the KFI studio: http://www.kfi640.com/common/championsforchange/championsforchange.html.
The Network for a Healthy California–Los Angeles Region offers resources, technical assistance, and support for anti-obesity and nutrition-related projects throughout L.A. County and supports the efforts of the Los Angeles Collaborative for Healthy Active Children. The Los Angeles Collaborative for Healthy Active Children is a dynamic partnership of over 150 organizations dedicated to improving the health of children and families in Los Angeles County (http://www.lacollaborative.org/). The Collaborative promotes healthy eating, physical activity and communities that foster healthy lifestyles. With quarterly meetings and trainings throughout the year, the Collaborative brings together and mobilizes diverse sectors including low-income consumers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, advocates, community leaders, businesses, social service offices, and other experts in nutrition and physical activity. Members of the Collaborative coordinate, implement and evaluate countywide campaigns and initiatives that increase access to and availability of fruits and vegetables, safe physical activity and food safety.
