Well it has been months since I wrote on this blog, not because I haven’t been working out but because I haven’t been doing any workout DVDs – and since this is a workout DVD blog…
So, it’s been since June since I looked at the stats and I was pretty surprised to see what people have been reading about during my absence. Turbo Jam is still very strong, and Jillian Michaels is way up there – I guess The Biggest Loser piqued more interest. I haven’t watched the show in eons but I know Jillian is the real deal and I admire her as a trainer a lot.
And that brings me to my latest dilemma – whether I should continue holding my personal training certification. It expires in a few days! I can extend it for three months and pay the penalty fees for a late application – but I have not done my CECs to enable me to send in my paperwork!
I love to train, don’t get me wrong, and I love to train other people, but I have so many things going on with my desk job that I don’t know when I will be able to train people again. I got really burned out when I worked at a local gym last year because I struggled to work within the gym’s franchised personal training program of delivering a good workout in under 30 minutes for $60 a pop [barely any of that going into my pocket, I may add.]
The gym’s training policy went against all my NASM [National Academy of Sports Medicine] training and so I got pissed off with it all. My belief is that training is more than standing next to someone while counting; that cardio, flexibility, stability, endurance and power training are also important parts of a fitness program and more time in a one-on-one session is needed to accomplish safe weight loss and training goals.
OK, rant over!
So all summer I have been planning on doing my CECs, with time left on my certification diminishing each day, but it just hasn’t happened. I know I will kick myself a year from now if I want to jack in my desk job and train once more, and I have to pay out large sums of money to get certified again.
I’ll keep y’all posted on what happens, and hey – if any of you live in the Mooresville, NC area and want a training partner at the Gold’s Gym – let me know, I’ll be there.
